Making Progress in St Michael's Ward
In 2021 I was elected to serve the area I have lived my entire life. From childhood to adulthood. I went to school at Hill View nursery, infants and juniors. I studied at Southmoor and then went onto study at Northumbria University with a degree in History and Politics.
I care about how clean and safe our streets are in St Michael's Ward because I walk them everyday just like everyone else.
Over the last 3 years I think we've made a lot of progress in Ashbrooke, Tunstall, Grangetown and Hill View and in 2024, that could all be put at risk.
How far we've come:
- - Worked with the Connor Brown Trust to install the first Bleed Bags in Sunderland
- - Helped the Sunderland Samaritans provide mental health drop-ins in our community
- - New trees planted across our area: replacing damaged ones and planting new ones.
- - Brand new play park equipment installed in Backhouse Park, a new decorative welcome sign and a new CCTV cameras
- - Reported crime around Backhouse Park DOWN by 66%
- - Speed bumps installed in Ashbrooke, with more set to be installed this year in Hill View and Grangetown to tackle speeding
- - Exposed the scandal that NONE of the Speed Cameras in Sunderland work
What's at risk in May 2024?
ASHBROOKE - We've arranged for police-residents meetings and installed CCTV cameras to target hotspots. But we know drug dealing and ASB is on the rise, electing a brand-new councillor will take us back to square one. Losing the contact with local residents, knowledge of the local area and connections with the police.
GRANGETOWN AND HILL VIEW - We've got to keep the investment going into Hill View and Grangetown, with new flower planters, speed bumps installation and new trees all part of my plan for these areas
PARKING - Tunstall and Ashbrooke have massive parking problems, we are 3 years into a campaign to get School Street Schemes installed in our ward. We pushed the Council to do a trial in Sunderland and roll them out across the city. They've finished the trial and now we need to hold them to their word and see it installed in our area in places like Meadowside and Thornhill.
SPEEDING - We need to keep the pressure on the Council to turn our Speed Cameras back on and install new ones, a Labour councillor won't hold the Labour Council's feet to fire.
We are making progress in St Michael's Ward, let's not go back to square one.
