Update on Backhouse Park
After the recent arson attack in Backhouse Park that left a central play equipment ruined and removed, as well as the surface suffering from the fire damage. After this senseless attack that left the park unusable for young children in the Ashbrooke, Tunstall and Hill View area the St Michael's Ward councillors are happy to announce that several new improvements have been costed, funding secured and are set to be installed before the end of the financial year in March 2023.
These include:
An inclusive wheelchair accessible roundabout
1 inclusive swing to replace one of the standard swing seats, meaning we would have 1 Inclusive swing for disabled children, one standard swing and 2 young-children harness swings
2 New metal picnic benches to be added
and a new floor to replace the tired and worn rubber surface that is currently down in the centre area of the play park
We are also encouraging everyone to chip-in and support ICOS (International Community Organisation of Sunderland) in their fundraising efforts. They are trying to raise money for outdoor children's gym equipment that could be placed within the play area.

Lyall, Michael and Peter are also in continuous discussions with the Council to try and add more equipment to the children's play area, primarily the replacement of what was lost in the recent arson attack.
