Washington Conservatives are calling on Gentoo to charge fair rates and be transparent about how they calculate them.
Gentoo state that you can’t compare like for like between communal heating systems and houses with their own boilers as you are paying for hot water, not gas.
Washington Conservatives find this to be an odd argument given that without the gas you don’t have the hot water so you can't separate the price of the hot water from the gas. Additionally, households with their own boilers use hot water to heat their radiators and for baths and washing up for instance, hence we believe this argument is flawed and not a just defence.
Several questions need to be answered by Gentoo and our petition is calling on them to answer the following:
- The average gas price charged is around 3p per kWh. Why does Gentoo charge 9.1p per kWh on a communal heating system?
- If residents are charged for hot water and not for gas, why is the charged rate in kWh and not in pence per litre of hot water?
- Gateshead Council ran communal heating systems charge 4.17p per kWh, why does Gentoo charge over twice this rate?
- Why are residents prevented from getting their own boilers installed - even if they offer to pay out of their own pocket?
- Do Gentoo or Switch2 make profits from these communal heating systems?
