Simon Ayre, the Conservative Party candidate for Hendon Ward, has written to Sunderland City Council's Development Control team to object to the demolition of Clifton Hall.
In a letter written to planners at Sunderland Council, Simon - who began his career with the NHS in Hendon - warned against tearing down the city's historic buildings.
Dear Sir
With reference to the proposed demolition of Clifton Hall. Firstly, this magnificent example of Victorian architecture is threatened to be replaced by a terrace, that is one of the most inferior and visually painfully pieces of contemporary madness, complete with weak design and structure.
Victorian architecture such as Clifton Hall maintains the very integrity of the community with its character, beauty, and positive physical presence. The heart of the community revolves around such magnificent and historic structures, lending to a sense of stability to people who live in the area.
Although not listed, historically recognised Clifton Hall must be preserved. Anything contrary to the preservation of this magnificent building would go against Policies BH7 and BH8 of the local plan. I hereby formally request that this planning application must be rejected.
Sincerely
Simon Ayre
