Local Conservatives have been very encouraged to note the success of the Chancellor’s, Rishi Sunak’s, Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which altogether saw, within the borough of Sunderland, 228,000 meals claimed, 182 establishments signing-up to it, with, in total, over £1.3m being claimed by the restaurants The overall figures indicate over 100,000 million meals were claimed in the whole country throughout the month of August.
Commenting, Conservative Councillor, Michael Dixon, Shadow Cabinet member for Dynamic City said:
“It is very pleasing to see the level of support local people have provided by eating out and the many jobs that must have been protected during these very trying past months, because of the Chancellor’s scheme. We live in uncertain times of course, but with this initiative having worked so well, hopefully local people will continue supporting this massively important part of our local economy and, of course, do so safely by observing social distancing measures.
"I am sure we all hope that the hardworking restaurants and eating places, taking encouragement from the success of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, will be able to retain and attract customers in the time ahead.”
