The Sunderland Conservatives team has offered deepest condolences to the family of Margaret Beck, Labour councillor for Fulwell Ward from 2015-19.
Mrs Beck sadly died on 27th March from Coronavirus, as reported by the local press.
James Doyle, Deputy Chairman of the Sunderland Conservatives and Councillor for Fulwell since 2019, said:
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Fulwell councillor Margaret Beck. In spite of our political differences, Margaret was always warm and respectful to me as a new ward councillor. As I am sure all who knew her will agree, she was a kind-hearted and much-loved person who clearly held a deep sense of duty toward her community. She will be sorely missed."
George Howe, who served as Councillor for Fulwell Ward alongside Mrs Beck, said:
"Margaret was a tireless worker for the people and had a good sense of humour. I re-call when she was elected 'she would be a thorn in my side’ I never felt the pain. She was a good opponent."
The death of such a prominent figure in Sunderland is a reminder that Coronavirus is here in our city and not some far away problem that won't affect us. It is vital that people follow the government's clear guidance to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.
