St Michael's Councillors work to improve Ashbrooke with Gentoo and Environmental Teams
Recently the St Michael's team had two separate walkabouts with Gentoo and the Councils Environmental Enforcement Team in Ashbrooke, raising many issues that residents have gotten in touch about such as problem tenants and overgrown bushes, weeds and trees.
St Michael's Ward actually has 25% fewer reports of Environmental issues than the East Area average over the last 3 months, according to data councillors have been given.
Gentoo has recently assigned a new neighbourhood coordinator to Ashbrooke and local councillors know that he is very excited to hit the ground running and work with councillors to improve the historic community.
Councillors Dixon, Reed and Wood also voted recently to fund brand new dedicated enforcement officers in the East Area, who will work to tackle flytipping, littering and other environmental issues in our area. The Conservative councillors have also worked over several years to resurface the backlanes and roads in Ashbrooke, as well as installing new bins and 'Don't litter' signs.
Speaking on this Cllr Lyall Reed said:
"Ashbrooke is an iconic and historic neighbourhood of Sunderland and we know residents have been suffering from anti-social behaviour, flytipping in the backlanes and overgrown bushes, as well as general issues of litter and dog fouling.
"That's why we have taken a comprehensive approach to the area.
"New litter bins, new warning signs, new environmental officers and new bins. We will continue to work with the Council and with Gentoo to improve Ashbrooke."
